Joseph Washburn, Pastor
In January 2005 Rev. Dr. Washburn was called as the pastor of Banner Elk Presbyterian Church after serving Topsail Presbyterian Church in Hampstead, NC for more than 7 years. Prior to his ministry in Hampstead Rev. Washburn served as a Director of Christian Education in churches in Charleston and York, SC. Rev. Washburn received a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from the University of South Carolina, a Master of Arts in Christian Education from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education, and a Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary.Click here to send E-mail
Rob Clemmer, Office Administrator
Coming from Winston-Salem, Rob, a former principal, knows children like the back of his hand. He served as interim CE director and did it so well, the church and the congregation asked him to continue. Rob is a graduate of Lees-McRae College, Appalachian State University and received his masters degree from UNC Greensboro. He also holds a specialist in education degree from Appalachian State University. We are very fortunate to have him as his love of young people is evident in everything he does. Along with his wife Phyllis, the two are seen herding kids all over the high country.Click here to send E-mail
Angela Washburn, Director of Christian Education
In September, 2005 Angela began a job share with Rob as Co-Directors of Christian Education. She has a passion for teaching the Bible and helping people of all ages grow in faith in Jesus Christ. A graduate of North Carolina State University with a BA in Psychology and a Masters degree from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education, Angela felt called to youth ministry. She returned to PSCE to obtain an Education Specialist degree in youth ministry and curriculum development. Angela has served churches in Boone, Walterboro, SC, Clover, SC and Hampstead,NC. Angela is married to Pastor Joseph and they have two children, Hannah and Jacob who love Banner Elk as much as their parents do.Click here to send E-mail
Susan DeLoach, Administrative Assistant
The administrative assistant oversees the office and understands, better than anyone, the complexities of running a church. As we grow, her job has become increasingly complex. Because of this, most committees are taking on more secretarial tasks within the committee structure.Click here to send E-mail
Diane Rydell, Director of Music
Ms. Rydell has brought the music program to new heights as the congregation now enjoys a variety of anthems, special music programs, music for children, a new pipe organ and a new baby grand piano. Trained in New York, Diane and her husband Steve own a music store in Boone. Both have added their enormous talents to our music program.
Margaret Trivette, Church Housekeeper
Margaret has been imployed at our church for over 21 years. Not only has she kept our church "spotless", she has also been known around the Banner Elk community as a very caring and loving individual who goes out of her way to help others. Margaret spends six hours a week volunteering at Life Care Center. She spends hours with patients giving them facials, doing their nails, leading exercise classes, serving them cookies and giving lots of "hugs". Our congregation is fortunate to have Margaret as a staff member.|
